Early Intervention | Phase 1 Orthodontics
Orthodontics for Children
Starting Smiles Off Right
Dr. Lazin and the American Association of Orthodontists both recommend that every child see their local orthodontist by around age seven. This gives him the opportunity to evaluate your child’s smile and, if necessary, recommend phase one treatment.
Most kids won’t need it, but for around 10% of our younger patients, it can make a big difference in the complexity of their care later on.
However, some orthodontic problems are easier to correct when children are younger and before they become bigger and more challenging issues. In these cases, Dr. Lazin may recommend early intervention, known as Phase 1 treatment.
A Foundation for Healthy Smiles
Phase one treatment isn’t about creating a perfect final smile right away. Dr. Lazin uses phase one to guide growth, improve jaw development, and address specific concerns as your child continues to grow.
That might mean creating space for permanent teeth, correcting a bite issue, or helping reduce the need for more complicated treatment later. Once your child completes phase one, we continue to monitor development and determine whether Phase two treatment will be needed in the teen years.
What Early Treatment Can Help Address
Dr. Lazin may recommend early treatment for concerns like:
- Front teeth that stick out may be more vulnerable to injury
- Habits like thumb sucking and tongue thrusting that can impede jaw growth and alter tooth position
- Crossbites that can influence jaw growth or cause shifting
- Delayed or impacted eruption of permanent teeth
- Children feeling self-conscious or being teased about their smile
Not every child needs early treatment, but when the timing is right, it can make a meaningful difference in how your child’s smile develops.
Phase 2 | Comprehensive Orthodontics
Orthodontics for Teens
A Perfect Time for Care
By around age 13 or 14, your child should have most or all of their permanent teeth. At that point, their jaws are still developing, but they’re close enough to their adult positions for Dr. Lazin to see what’s needed to create a healthy, balanced bite.
Lasting Benefits
Teen treatment does more than straighten your child’s smile. It helps reduce uneven tooth wear, supports healthier jaw function, and can lower the risk of more serious problems later.
Orthodontic treatment can also make a real difference in your teen’s confidence. Feeling good about your smile matters in everyday life, especially during the teen years. Effective orthodontic care helps them feel confident about social events, photos, and big milestones.
Options for Teens
We believe that your teen’s orthodontic care should be just as unique as they are. Dr. Lazin will work closely with you to find the best option for your teen’s smile, whether that means modern metal braces, clear braces, or Invisalign.
Care for Adult Smiles
Modern Orthodontic Options
There’s no reason why you shouldn’t love your smile as an adult. Orthodontic care has never been better, and at Lazin Family Orthodontics, we offer options that make it easy to love your smile at every stage of life.
Why Choose Adult Orthodontics
The benefits of orthodontic care are for everyone, and adults today have more reasons than ever for treatment.
Look Better, Feel Better
Dr. Lazin can use modern orthodontic options to correct issues like crowding or spaces between teeth that you’ve been dealing with for your whole life. You deserve the confidence that comes from straight teeth and a beautiful smile.
Maintain Your Smile
You might be surprised to learn that your teeth don’t stop moving after adolescence. Even if they seemed straight before, your teeth can and will shift as an adult. This can lead to all sorts of issues, like trouble brushing, jaw pain, or a smile you don’t love.
Stay Healthy & Happy
Untreated orthodontic issues can lead to problems with your underlying dental health, such as gum disease or tooth decay. Misalignment can also lead to uneven wear on your teeth, making it harder to chew normally.
Love Your Smile
There’s no reason to live with a smile you’re unhappy with later in life. Modern metal braces are better than ever, and options like clear braces and Invisalign make it easy to straighten your smile in style. Adult orthodontic treatment just makes sense at Lazin Family Orthodontics.
